TypingPractice HELP
Thankyou for downloading Typing Practice. This software is used mainly for English typing and does not support Chinese typing. It enables users to create their own articles, test their typing speed, check their spelling, and finally the program gives statistics for reference.
Basic requirements : Pentium MMX 166MHZ,or higher/32MB RAM, or higher/VGA resolution 800x600, at least, and 256 colors or higher¡C
Operation system : Windows 95, Windows 98 (1st or 2nd edition), Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 5, Windows ME, Windows 2000 Professional, Windows 2000 Server, Windows 2000 Advanced Server, or Windows XP operating systems running on Intel hardware¡C
All the above operations must have Java 2 Runtime Environment(JRE)¡C

This software is designed for operations with Java 2 Runtime Environment (JRE). If your system has no JRE, please download it from java.sun.com
After downloading Typing Practice, please double click ¡§install.exe¡¨, which will bring you through the whole installation. If the file you have downloaded is a compressed one, extract the file first before running setup.
This software can run in different platforms, including Windows, Linux and Mac. Now we only provide Windows version because the files for the other two platforms are too big and thus inconvenient for Internet transfer.
typing.zip Version :
This program is written by Java language, so the operation system must install sdk or JRE. Go to java.sun.com for more information on downloading.
The database of this program uses Cloudscape DBMS. This copy of Cloudscape is licensed for DEVELOPMENT ONLY. It is a violation of the license agreement to deploy this version in a production application. Therefore, users cannot upload that program with bundle. Because Cloudscape does not offer downloading now, users can check Beginning Java Databases published by Wrox for reference. The book provides Cloudscape 3.6.4 version for downloading. It is a zip file, so please extract the file after downloading. We need \cloudscape\lib\cloudscape.jar file in next step. For more information about download, go to www.wrox.com
Please extract typing.zip to c: \typing and copy \cloudscape\lib\cloudscape.jar file to c\typing.
Double click typing.bat batch file to run this program.
Add : To create a new article, enter your designated Subject Number and Content. If the Subject Number has already been inside the data base, an error message will show up. NOTE: Please do click the save icon to make sure the contents are successfully stored into the database.
Modify : Generally, the contents are not to be modified, but if you do want to modify the existing articles, click this icon and the save icon to make sure the modification.
Save : Save new contents or modifications into the data base.
Cancel : Cancel the operation of creating or modifying articles.
Delete : Remove the article shown.
Find : Search your designated article by the subject numbers.
First : Jump to the first data.
Previous : Jump to the previous data.
Next : Jump to the next data.
Last : Jump to the last data.

1. Click ¡§Practice¡¨ in the function tags, as shown above. ¡@ ¡@ 2. Set the practice time (unit : minutes). ¡@ ¡@ 3. Click ¡§Load Article¡¨ and the system will load one randomly from the database. The status bar will show the current subject number and word count information. NOTE: Please set the practice time first, or an error message will show up.
¡@ ¡@ 4. Click ¡§Start Exam¡¨ and cursor will automatically appear in the typing area and twinkle. The user can now start typing practice. ¡§Running¡¨ will show up at Status Bar and the timer will show the time elapsed.
¡@ ¡@ 5. During the typing practice, it is possible to pause by clicking ¡§Pause¡¨ The timer will also pause and you can no longer type in the typing area.
If you want to continue practice, click ¡§Resume¡¨ to go on the process, as ¡§Running¡¨ will be shown again at Status Bar.
¡@ ¡@ 6. When the user click ¡§Stop¡¨ , or when the designated time is up, the user can no longer type, and the statistics of the current practice will show up as follows:

7. Click ¡§OK¡¨ at the bottom of the statistics window, the system will clear the screen and start over.
