Animation on the web is generally in GIF format. Although the GIF format is the property of Unisys, the web has adopted it for animation. Animated GIF files are generally small and transfer easily. However, they can only be 256 colors and therefore have found their usefulness in small buttons and advertising banners. PNG is another format that browsers support, and although similar to the GIF format, PNG has yet to become popular. JPG is by far the best image format for true color images on the net, but they do not animate. Pick up a GIF utility program and paste in your bitmaps to make an animation for the web.
