Before you can compile or run Galeon, a working installation of Mozilla is required. Galeon uses Mozilla 's rendering engine to display content, so if you cannot run Mozilla, you almost certainly will not be able to run Galeon. To download a Mozilla package for your system, go to http://www.mozilla.org.
If you wish to compile Galeon from the source code, consult the appendix called Compiling Galeon From Source Code for instructions. Once you have a working installation, continue reading. If you have installed Galeon from a binary package, you should have a Galeon menu item in your Programs->Internet menu. Click on it to launch Galeon.
If this is the first time you are running Galeon, it will ask if you would like to import your Netscape preferences. If you do not select this option, Galeon will run with its default settings. Next, you will be asked if you would like to import your Netscape bookmarks. If you select yes, a bookmarks file will be created and your existing Netscape bookmarks will be converted to Galeon's bookmark format and saved. Your original Netscape bookmarks will not be modified in any way.
Once this is done, Galeon should open a browser window and load the default home page. If a window does not open, check the INSTALL and FAQ files in your /usr/doc/galeon-(version) or /usr/share/doc/galeon-(version) directory for possible causes and solutions.
Congratulations! You are now ready to browse the web in style.
