Uploaders: Please put files in /New. They will be checked and moved to their proper place within a few days. They will also appear in /Newitems when this occurs. When uploading anything, please upload a text file or files that describe the other file(s) uploaded. Also, please stick your email address in these description files. We tend to frown upon self extracting archives, as they cannot be verified on the UNIX boxes, and because they waste space on the archive. However, if the author of a program chooses to distribute their work in that format, it is OK (one example is the recent versions of lharc, which are quite naturally self extracting archives). The BEST way to upload (and to ensure that the files are moved as quickly as possible) is to have a small description file for each archive uploaded. For example: blah1.zip blah1.readme neoptc40.lzh neoptc40.txt ^ | \ which might say "Neodesk patch 4.0, uploaded by boyd@math.fsu.edu" Thanks for your cooperation. Mickey Boyd ----------------------- It would also be extremely helpful if the uploader could suggest a final resting place in the archive, thereby taking some of the guess work out of trying to maintain this site. "I suggest this file foo.zip be placed in /Utilities" or "This file foo4.zip should replace foo3.zip in /Archivers" Please also make sure that you send the files to _THIS_ site, and not to the mirror sites. It's a problem for the sysadmin at the mirror sites to handle files manually, and it's unnecessary since the mirrors do this automatically. ftp://atari.archive.umich.edu/New Thanx! MOlin
