Instructions (sort of) for AGENT-X ---------------------------------- This is a short text file to explain what all the seperate files are for inside this ZIP. AGENT-X.Z80 - The menu program, for those who can use the .TAP file. AX_LEV1.Z80 - Level 1 of the game loaded AX_LEV2.Z80 - Level 2 of the game loaded (still 100% lives!) AX_LEV3.Z80 - Level 3 of the game loaded (whoops, lost a few lives!) AX_LEV4.Z80 - Level 4 of the game loaded (almost completed above 100%) AX_END.Z80 - Proof that I completed the game ! AX_LEVS.TAP - Agent-X Level data stored as headerless datablocks in TAP format for registered Z80 users. 'Tape' Loading: --------------- However, due to some piddling about, I managed to recreate the level datas from my attempts at the game. These files were then converted to a .TAP file and the HEADERS removed, so to all intents and purposes, they are HEADERLESS files. This is how Agent-X expects the data to be stored. The plan of action is thus: 1) Load in the AGENT_X.Z80 file and select your control method. 2) BEFORE you start the game, go to the TAPE menu of Z80 and select the AX_LEVS.TAP file. If you BROWSE through this file, you will see 4 'datablocks' and no 'headers'. 3) When asked for a level, hopefully, you will be able to press F10 quick enough to move the file pointer down to the correct level. The best time to press F10 is when you have finished a level. 4) If you do not time it correctly, you will have to re-do the game from Level 1. You will get TAPE ERRORS if the file pointer is not placed at the correct level data file. 5) Hopefully, you will be able to play the game as you used to do way back when it was still on tape. NB: If anyone has got a snapshot of the 128K single-part load version of this game, they should, in theory be able to use the .TAP file to recreate all the level data being loaded in and then snapshot a FULL 128K version. Instructions: ------------- There is a distinct lack of original instructions due to the fact that the majority of my original Spectrum games were either sold or sent to Bosnia a few years ago ! So, here is my attempt at the instructions ... Level 1 ------- Dodge the tiles in the road (jump over them, or just avoid) until the Distance marker is full. Also avoid the edges of the road. Level 2 ------- Kick some butt - best ploy is to head to the left, and jump + left + fire to dispatch the enemy, as well as jump over the rolling carts. Keep on going until the Distance marker is full. Level 3 ------- The hardest level. Hit the objects coming towards you, before they hit you! Make sure you have got loads of lives left on this level. It only speeds up when you are 3/4 of the way (ie. on the Distance marker). Level 4 ------- 1. Dodge the missiles and laser beams inside the building (go left!). 2. Collect the bomb out at sea (after killing all the spacemen!) 3. Take the bomb back inside the building (go right), killing any spacemen and avoiding all the missiles & laser beams. 4. Drop the bomb on the building. 5. Get out of the building (go left), avoiding the laser beams, missiles and spacemen. End Of Game Sequence -------------------- No pre-rendered animations taking up untold amounts of Megabytes on a CD-ROM disk, just a text message telling you the Mad Professor will be back !! Press a key and you are back to the main menu. Game completed & this documentation by: Chubby Brown/Profanity '94
