In this documentation we'll give a proper introduction to the gameplay of 40 Caves. Your goal is to collect all the shiny diamonds in the level and reach the exit in any possible way.
This documentation was created in a very short time period so it's not all-inclusive and we'll update this documentation for the following patches.
40 Caves is a grid based game which means that the hero moves tile by tile. For example, it's
not possible to walk left by a half length of tile.
You can command the hero to walk by hitting the button Arrow left or Arrow right.
Hero can jump over excactly one tile if and only if there's a fall tile next to the hero.
Technically the hero jumps when player hits buttons x + arrow left/right.
Please notice that hero can only drop himself, and consequently only the two first scenarios
are possible in the included picture.
Player can climb on obstacles by pressing buttons x + arrow left/right.
Assume that the current game conditions equals the conditions which are shown in the Wooden box
picture (in the end of this document). Now player can climb on the wooden box by pressing x +
arrow left.
In 40 Caves player can select the level which he/she wants to play in the Level Select room. There are opened and closed doors in the Level Select room according to player's finesse: when player passes a new level, new door will be opened. Eg., if player wants to play the level number 5, player should walk to the door number 5 and hit Return key.
Wooden boxes are the simplest kind of puzzle elements in 40 Caves.
The player can push wooden boxes to different locations simply by moving to next to it (like in the
included picture) and then control the location of the box simply by walking to the wanted direction.
Player can also destroy wooden boxes with bombs. If player sets a bomb next to a wooden box, it'll explode.
Heavy box can mostly be considered as a wooden box. However, the heavy box
is a lot heavier than the wooden one, and consequently player can't push a group of overlapping boxes
if there's a heavy box in the heap. Also these heavy boxes are made of stone and can't be destroyed
with bombs.
There are no more differences between the wooden box and the heavy one so as said: the heavy box is
approximately same object as the wooden one.
Player can modify his environment by placing bombs. Player can command the hero to drop a bomb
by pressing button z. After the drop there's 5 seconds time to escape and when the time has
expired, the bomb will destroy everything next to it. That includes yourself if you aren't
careful!
And remember: you've only a limited amount of bombs so use those wisely! There are also levels which
you must solve without bombs.
Water tiles are designed to be obstacles for our poor hero who can't swim.
When the hero enters to water tile, it'll be an instant dead for him and he's forced to start solving
the puzzle from the beginning.
However player can jump over the water tile if there's only one water tile in between the player and the safe tile. The player can also
drop a box to the water tile to make a nice bridge for him.
