NASHUA, NEW HAMPSHIRE, USA (February 15, 1996) -- White Pine Software today released a commercial version of its desktop videoconferencing software, Enhanced CU-SeeMe for Windows¨. What has become the most widely-used videoconferencing software is now available for purchase worldwide over the Internet. The software is used for person-to-person conferencing, group conferencing and live broadcasting over the Internet or any other TCP/IP network. People all over the world are already using the software, including scientists and technicians at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), which co-developed the original CU-SeeMe with Cornell University.

The market is eager to see White Pine's Enhanced CU-SeeMe which makes its debut today over the Internet. With over a half-a-million beta and freeware users already, early adopters will see the substantial enhancements White Pine has implemented. Jack Dutzy, Vice President of Marketing and Strategic Sales, stated "We have been receiving extraordinary visibility and demand for Enhanced CU-SeeMe on a worldwide basis, and with this product launch we can officially begin to service this market need and ride the Internet wave."

White Pine is taking a contemporary and leadership role in providing initial CU-SeeMe sales directly over the Internet. The company's first commercial offering of this software can be purchased directly and securely on the World Wide Web at http://www.cu-seeme.com, making it White Pine's and the Industry's first videoconferencing product to be sold directly over the Internet. Packaged product will be available in March through distributors and retail outlets worldwide. A Macintosh/PowerMacintosh version will also be available in March.

A New Era - Desktop Videoconferencing For Everyone

White Pine developed Enhanced CU-SeeMe for Windows to be used for business, educational and personal applications. Because it's priced at under $100 and runs directly over the Internet or any TCP/IP network, users can communicate globally without expensive hardware and incurred costs. Real-time video and audio conferencing can be achieved with as little bandwidth as a 28.8k modem, and it works effectively over a 14.4k modem for audio-only usage. It comes complete with the WhitePineBoard which enables remote users to share documents and graphics, sketch ideas and markup an electronic whiteboard.

Enhanced CU-SeeMe for Windows/Windows 95 features include:

The Microsoft Windows Platform

Enhanced CU-SeeMe for Windows is designed specifically for Windows and Windows 95 to provide the best possible performance, ease of use and integration for PC users taking advantage of both operating environments. "By combining the plug-and-play capabilities of Windows 95 with Enhanced CU-SeeMe's new user interface, we have made desktop videoconferencing easier to install and use," states Dutzy. He continues, "As Internet communications and computing converge on the PC, desktop videoconferencing such as Enhanced CU-SeeMe will be a significant application in the PC industry for corporate, home office, educational and personal applications."

White Pine's unique "Reflector" technology provides group conferencing, live broadcasting and meeting capabilities. The Reflector has typically been a UNIX-based application, but White Pine is also porting the technology to Windows NT 3.5.1. David Bundy, Vice President of Engineering for White Pine, comments "We are excited about the Internet release of Enhanced CU-SeeMe for Windows, and by the end of February we will reach another development milestone - Reflector technology running on Windows NT!"

Howard Berke, CEO and President of White Pine acknowledges, "Enhanced CU-SeeMe is a strong addition to White Pine's line of enterprise-wide software, service and network solutions. White Pine recognizes the strategic importance of the Internet market and will continue to respond quickly to its needs with innovative technology and software."
